SCHOOL BUS DRIVER TRAINER/ROUTER
REPORT TO: DIRECTOR OF THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- CONDUCT TRAINING FOR ALL NEW SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARKANSAS STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND ARKANSAS STATE POLICE REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES.
- EVALUATE DRIVER PROFICIENCY AND MAKE TRAINING ASSIGNMENTS BASED ON EVALUATED WEAK AREAS.
- PLAN AND CONDUCT BUS RIDER SAFETY TRAINING PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS.
- SCHEDULE AND MANAGE SCHOOL BUS EVACUATION TRAINING PROGRAM. EVALUATE NEW SAFETY AND TRAINING MATERIALS.
- REVIEW AND MAINTAIN DISCIPLINARY REPORT FOR DRIVER CONTINUATION TRAINING.
- PLAN AND CONDUCT ANNUAL DRIVER SKILLS TRAINING.
- RIDE WITH AND OBSERVE DRIVERS WHEN REQUIRED.
- PREPARE TRAINEES FOR CDL EVALUATION AND MAINTAIN ALL ASSOCIATED TRAINING RECORDS.
- MAINTAIN MVR RECORDS.
- CONDUCT CLASSROOM TRAINING AND COORDINATE ADDITIONAL HANDS-ON TRAINING FOR SCHOOL BUS MONITORS.
- ASSIST IN PRESENTATIONS DURING DRIVER SAFETY MEETINGS.
- MAINTAIN APPLICATIONS AND OVERSEE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR ALL NEW APPLICANTS.
- CONDUCT HANDS-ON TRAINING IN LIFT OPERATION, WHEELCHAIR TIE-DOWN PROCEDURE FOR DRIVER AND MONITOR TRAINEES.
- INVESTIGATE ACCIDENTS INVOLVING SCHOOL BUSES.
- PERFORM ANY OTHER DUTIES AS MAY BE ASSIGNED BY THE DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION.
- Design and maintain the electronic routing system for all district and contracted routes district-wide.
- Keep the Supervisor of Transportation informed on any issues related to safety, service, or efficiency on all routes district-wide.
- Work with contract operators on the maintenance of their routes to assure that the routes within the district’s database accurately represent what each bus is actually doing on the road each day.
- Provide data and reports as needed to the administration within the transportation department and throughout the district.
- Maintain the electronic “Base Map” with all current and future roadways within the district.
- Coordinates the routing for new students entering our transportation system.
- Provides customer service to parents and school staff regarding the transportation of new students or students moving in District 742
- Respond to parent concerns on an as-needed basis.
- Solves issues such as overcrowding on buses or balancing loads to meet bell schedules
- Review bus stop requests and processes approved or denied requests
- Assist with special projects to analyze changes in bell schedules and school zone attendance boundaries
- Assist with establishing and monitoring bus routes, including special programs; adjusts routes as necessary during the school year; field tests schedules and routes; determines mileage of routes
- Analyzes data pertaining to vehicle capacity, timing, road systems, and safety concerns in order to develop school bus routes and schedules
- Drive school bus routes on an as-needed basis.
- Other duties as assigned

Education
